Wow, since we stopped having to pass up assignments for a couple of weeks, we have been out gallivanting nonstop, so here is what I have been up to in the month of October.

First, introducing the world’s awesome-st chicken wing (albeit the most unhealthy one as well):

Yuen’s Steamboat boasts one of the tastiest chicken wings I have ever had the privilege to sink my teeth into. The chicken wing was made of fabulous.

Shortly after that, we had another fun karaoke day, sang our lungs out. Can you believe Red Box does not have Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” in their database?

Then duty called when Tash, Akil, Michelle, and the rest of our gang of merry men (and women) organised Cancel Cancer: Just Beat It, a cancer awareness campaign at Taylor’s.

After the hardwork of selling hotdogs and drinks (I was co-Food and Beverages head with Kenneth), Akil, Michelle, Nina, Jervinn, Ami, and I had a shopping trip to the Golden Triangle.

The shopping trip was pretty fruitful, and I actually, by coincidence, found a graphic tee that had the image of my actual Chuck Taylor’s sneakers, the exact model sans in black and white!

And following that, we were treated to a night out at Bangsar for Ai Khim’s 21st birthday. We were all dressed to the nines (thanks to the birthday girl’s strict I-will-kill-you-if-you-don’t-follow dress code), and Delicious was simply magnificent.

The desserts especially, exquisite!

And the crowning moment was during Halloween, when we braved the rain to see the boys from the All-American Rejects at Bukit Jalil Stadium carpark. Tyson Glitter was at his flamboyant best, and we were treated to some of their most popular songs though we had to wait for ages for them to appear onstage. Imagine the show was supposed to start at 6pm when the boys only came out at 9.30 pm; we were so glad we came late.

Tash was cool enough to try to get us into the VIP and Media section, but in the end we got ourselves right at the front, so it was all good. Akil and Nina’s first real concert experience yo!

Nina and Michelle went all fangirl for Tyson, so so cute (them not Tyson).

We even got a meter-ed taxi right after the concert.

And when we got back to our apartment, it was a little into the first day of November which left us reminiscing a past month of glorious fun (speaking of which Inglourious Basterds was epic) and unforgettable moments.

I am so gonna miss October.

What is the most enjoyable new show of the year?

Glee, beyond dispute, has to take the mantle as the funnest new series on television (albeit American television) right now hands-down.

I mean a story about a high school teacher trying to revive the old show choir team might seem like a Mighty Ducks reunion (God I love those Ducks), but any bunch of kids who can perform Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ and Queen’s ‘Somebody to Love’ with such vigour demands attention.

Sure, you might go all ‘haven’t we seen it all already in High School Musical?’, but this show is more the Rydell High gang than the Troy and Gabriella Wild Cats (though the Cheerios cheerleader outfits are almost identical), inserting satirical elements in between all the laughs and musical performances which are top-notch.

Glee has yet to find perfection as the Fox production has never quite found the heights of the awesome pilot episode, but as blissful fun goes, nothing rocks out as much as Glee does in Fall 2009.

As for comedies, wow, Modern Family is funny beyond compare. Though the premise of a dysfunctional family as laughing leverage is not the most original idea in Primetime history, Modern Family manages to tickle your funny bone with memorable characters, dark humour, random jokes and crazy moments.

Think of Modern Family as a cross between The Office and a funnier version of Everybody Loves Raymond (except without too much focus on Raymond). The ABC series uses a mockumentary approach so expect the characters to break the fourth wall (if you wanna be technical) throughout the episode.

Either way, expect to laugh your pants off, especially the pilot and especially as the show revolves around a family with teenage kids, a gay family, and a grand dad with a trophy wife. Comic genius.

PS: Vampire Diaries ain’t that bad. Good vampire versus bad vampire. Good vampire falls for damsel in distress. We’ve read it all before no thanks to Stephanie Meyer, but fan fact #1 is that Vampire Diaries was actually published years ahead of Twilight. Yeah who knew vampires existed before Edward right? Sorry Anne Rice.

Besides, Nina Dobrev provides the perfect tonic for us Sloan junkies since Entourage ended last week.

I mean, where else would we have gotten our Emmanuelle Chriqui fix?

I meant to blog about this earlier, I swear, but hey even Zooey Deschanel has to wait.

I finally watched (500) Days of Summer, my most anticipated movie of the year, with Nina at Sunway Pyramid last Saturday.

Heck, I even gotta watch it for free, thanks to Time Out KL’s Free Flicks initiative. But I also gotta thank Michelle for telling me about the Free Flicks. So in all actuality, Michelle is the one who should be thanked.

With all the thanking outta the way, I wanna dedicate this post to a friendly foe called Expectation.

I expected great things from (500) Days of Summer; the Marc Webb film had everything I could ask for, Zooey Deschanel among others, references to The Smiths, and a top-notch premise. Hell, any movie with nearly 30 seconds invested in Belle and Sebastian talk be spell-bindingly awesome.

Please don’t get me wrong, (500) Days of Summer, also starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, is a magnificent romantic-comedy, probably one of the best in the genre if not the most realistic, but thanks to Expectation, I already knew that the movie would blow my mind away before I even stepped foot into the cinema.

Expectation plays an influential role in (500) Days of Summer as well as life in general. If you go into this film expecting a The Proposal-esque generic Hollywood romantic fare a la The Ugly Truth, you’d be treated instead to a quirky and honest portrayal of relationships and the conundrum of Love and Fate and all that jazz. Tom (Gordon-Levitt) falls for Summer (Deschanel) who does not really feel the same way but goes for the ride nonetheless, which kinda spells disaster from the start. Their story is every love story which should have been told but isn’t. Their story is The Ugly Truth that nobody wants to hear.

In probably the most iconic scene of the Cannes Film Festival hit, Tom goes to Summer’s apartment hoping to reconcile with the girl of his dreams. The portrayal of Expectation and Reality is displayed through a nifty split screen with Tom expecting to get back together with Summer on one side and the reality check of that never happening on the other.

I guess life is all about keeping your feet on the ground when it comes to Expectations because when your Expectations go askew, all your have to face is a Reality check, and frankly, when Reality comes knocking on your door, you better be prepared to breathe in and smile.

PS: We even got a free movie poster which is now hanging proudly in the living room. Woots!

After months of resistance, my plastic cupboard wardrobe thingy finally gave up and fell flat, literally.

I think the catastrophe had something to do with the fact that I did not fix it up properly in May.

The insides and foundations are all over the place, so I am left with rebuilding this piece of crap from scratch or getting a new one.

Sigh, why did I ever discard my old perfectly good plastic cupboard wardrobe as a statement?

FML.

I am not a religious person.

So I was definitely not amused when my parents invited a quartet of Tibetan monks to come pray over our house.

There I was minding my own business in my room upstairs while the monks chanted half the morning away.

I would like to think that I was banished from all proceedings because of my sarcastic Dalai Lama jokes, but I only told my sister, who being the smart one left home for a movie leaving car-less me to face the monks from Tibet.

I was hauled from my room a little after noon as the monks, fresh from blessing the house, turned their attentions to my parents and I.

So there I was, the unholy one, being prayed on by the numero uno of the quartet, the visibly older and most experienced monk.

I was half-way expecting him to halt proceedings and proclaim me ‘the demon child’ or something Exorcist-like, but he duly blessed me.

Somehow it does not bother me that the only thing I really wanted to do then was to laugh right in front of the most senior Tibetan monk in Seremban.

But seeing how peaceful and happy my parents were, I was glad I kept my laughter to myself.

As the congregation left for lunch and I closed the gate, I turned back to the now quiet house and …

HAHAHAHAHA

Well, I obviously could not keep my laughter in forever.

Michelle told me that I had blogged a lot less since she moved in with Akil and I, and who am I to deny statistics? According to the numbers, I have only posted four times since the start of August.

What have I been doing you ask?

I have gone for a karaoke session and an ayam penyet slash slumber slash selamba party, passed up a few assignments here and there. I swear to God that Facebook is making blogging more difficult since all the updates, photos, and videos are all there anyway. *ehem excuses*

I know this blog is in danger of morphing into a TV Guide, but I absolutely have to rave about Skins!

Again, a little late on my part I have to admit, but like the old over-used cliche goes, better late than never. *ehem excuses*

Branding Skins the British equivalent of the O.C. would be convenient if not off-base as Skins is more than just a show about British teenagers who are always high on pot, sex, parties, and scandals.

One key element of the show is how effortlessly funny it is. The whole cast, all eight best friends of them, share a camaraderie so synonymous with the F.R.I.E.N.D.S. family. You believe them, you really do.

There are the usual stereotypical identities in the group dynamic – the sociopath alpha-male (Tony), the pretty popular girl (Michelle), the loser (Sid), the gay dancer (Maxie), the un-Muslim Muslim (Anwar), the stoner (Chris), the serious prim proper one (Jal), and the off-center whack (Cassie), but there is more than meets the eye with these personas. Sure, TV blows these characters out of proportion with dramatic effects mind, but I cannot help loving this show which has been my guilty pleasure for the past couple of weeks.

My favourite part of the first generation has to be the Season One finale where the ensemble cast sing Cat Steven’s ‘Wild World’ in a music video-esque story block.

I was really surprised when I realised that this cast would only be around for two seasons as the whole cast except for Tony’s mysterious scary beautiful sister Effie would not be returning for season three.

After watching the premier of Season Three, I am still a little bit hung up over the First Generation. The script is not as funny as the predecessor which was witty and sarcastic; the characters are not as memorable (yet), but I am ready to be surprised.

I really miss the First Generation; Sid’s blur demeanour and Anwar’s blasphemous antics, each funnier than the last.

That said however, I am all set for an Effy-ing good time with the Second Generation.

PS: I love how the last seconds of the opening theme montage shows the character in focus for the episode, pumps me up whenever it is Anwar, Sid, Maxie, Chris, Freddie or Naomi.

The School of Communication at Taylors College cancelled this week’s worth of classes after three students and a lecturer were confirmed to have been infected with H1N1; all good and dandy, except I had already decided to self-quarantine myself this week anyway.

I have not set foot outside my home for more than a week now, doing my civic duty as a Samaritan citizen by not infecting others with my apparent sickness (I am actually more worried about others infecting me). So what exactly have I been doing?

Having a Weeds marathon of course.

I only came across this critically-acclaimed Showtime comedy series early this month which is kinda slow considering this award-winning show has been around since 2005, but I just finished three seasons yesterday, so I am not that far behind (season five is airing on US shores now).

Weeds, starring Mary-Louise Parker as widow Nancy Botwin who sells marijuana for a living in a suburban town, is one of the funniest and most outrageously original stories on TV. The series has unfortunately gone off the boil since the first season, but every episode is still interesting and laugh-worthy with so many impressive cast and cameos, none more so than Zooey Deschanel’s four-episode appearance where she played a whacky and probably crazy stoned hippie at the latter end of season two.

In tune with my past year’s movie rewinds of Risky Business, The Breakfast Club, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Monty Python and the Life of Brian, Sixteen Candles, and Some Kind of Wonderful, my 80’s cult classic of the week was Pretty in Pink.

Yes, that is Jon Cryer of Two and a Half Man fame, 20 years younger; and yeah, the poster girl of 80’s teen angst Molly Ringwald is reincarnated again in this John Hughes (may he rest in peace) masterpiece about the disparities and social barriers between the rich and the poor. James Spader makes a noteworthy cameo as the dastardly rich playboy with the bad attitude a la Chuck Bass in this movie as well.

I am also in the midst of completing the last season of Prison Break; I mean, I followed the first three seasons religiously but refused to even give the fourth season a chance after the awfully mediocre third season, so I guess since I have time on my hands, I’d give the Final Break a try. I have not been disappointed so far, even my dad is watching it; nothing like the first season which was the single most exhilarating on TV, but close in terms of excitement and human flaws.

And you say communication students only sit around watching television and movies. Bah!

Well, during Urbanscapes nearly two months ago, I was stopped by a TV2 crew who wanted to interview me about fashion and street culture and music, so I obliged.

Don’t I just look blur? There goes my career in broadcasting.

Well, to say that I have not been blogging lately is an understatement; it has been more than two weeks since I posted anything on this blog and even as I type random words with the keyboard I still don’t really know what I am gonna write about, so this is gonna be a pretty random update.

Akil, Michelle, Kenneth, and I attended the Malaysian Students’ Leaders Summit (MSLS) organised by the UKEC at Nikko Hotel last weekend. It was great that I got to catch up with former HELP friends such as Wai Shan, Tian Huey, and Chrystal who were all there in one capacity or another; and oh, I met Sook Hui too. No photos though since Michelle *ehem* has not posted any yet. Listening to Khairy Jamaluddin and Tun Mahathir presenting and debating was awesome. And most importantly, there was free food.

Genting Highlands, one of the sponsors for MSLS, gave away star-shaped stress balls, and Akil has grown attached to his, as seen here with its new paper boat. Classes started two weeks ago, and as you can see, they can get pretty boring pretty fast.

I have been sick since the start of the month, alternating between flu and fever, but nothing too serious. I was on the way towards full recovery before I had ayam bertutu with Samantha at Ole-Ole Bali; the dish was delightfully delicious but heaty nonetheless.

Oh, and I pierced my left ear more than two weeks ago, so I guess technically it should have been included in the Lenka showcase post, but yeah who cares right. Thanks Si Yan for being there as the lady punctured my ear with a humongous gun thingy.

Oh and I totally bumped into Jia Yee at the ear-piercing place, so she got to see the historical moment as well.

I also went for MTV World Stage at Sunway Lagoon yesterday, so I will update once I get the photos from Michelle *wink wink* I also just discovered that my Twitter has been untouched for nearly two weeks now, oh the travesty.

PS: I have a confession to make, even if I got the photos from Michelle I still would not have blogged about MSLS and MTV World Stage extensively. There, I said it. So yeah, chronicles of a very lazy blogger.

PPS: As you can see, I was even too lazy to even take a picture of my own phone. So sue me.

Yeah, so Si Yan came over to Sunway and we had an awesome Italian lunch at Pommes Frites in Asian Avenue.

Si Yan read about this place in The Star, and I was pleasantly surprised by the delightful Belgian fries, the shop’s main attraction. It came with a special cheese dip, drool worthy!

The pasta dishes were equally as good, at an affordable price in comparison to other larger franchises.

Yeah, so next time you are in Asian Avenue, do drop by Pommes Frites!

Fast forward a few days to Sunday, Akil and I headed to One Utama to catch Lenka’s showcase after Si Yan passed me two priority passes for my belated birthday present.

As always, the showcase started late, so FlyFM’s Ben and Phat Fabes entertained the crowd in between performances.

The first artiste onstage was a Singaporean singer called Alif, whose single ‘Sayang Sayang’ was downloaded up to 500,000 online though I dunno why. Another fun fact brought to you by Ben and Phat Fabes.

Next up, local veteran Amy Mastura performed two songs from her new album. She was so vibrant!

And finally, at 4.40 p.m. Lenka and her band made an entrance to much fanfare. Even though she came over an hour late, the crowd was still cheering when she started off with ‘Trouble Is A Friend’.

It was really warm and sweaty by the time she came up with ‘Dangerous and Sweet’.

And oh, the crowd really went crazy for ‘The Show’, the most famous song off her debut album.

Oh, and the keyboardist could really multi-task, blowing the saxophone (I think) at the same time.

But Lenka showed that she was more than just a voice, she could blow too! (which sounded kinda wrong I know)

And after just less than half an hour, she gave the crowd a parting song called ‘We Will Never Grow Old’ which was kinda a travesty on two levels. One, her showcase was freaking only less than a half hour. And two, of course we are gonna grow old, like hello.

Oh and my classmate Leonard won the Lenka artwork competition!

All in all, an enjoyable time with some decent music; oh, we met Kenneth there as well.

Oh yeah, currently in the library, first day of classes, and wohoo, I am now a second year degree student. Like yay!

Yeah, so the past week started off really well as my sister and I drove to watch Manchester United play Malaysia at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

After getting stuck in a jam and getting lost all the way to Cheras, we finally found a parking space although we arrived 10 minutes after kick-off.

Yeah, it was a real treat seeing my favourite soccer team in action, and it was another thing crossed off my list of ‘100 things to do before I die’ this year after watching three Grand Slam tennis matches on Centre Court at the Australian Open in January. Next: Manchester United at Old Trafford!

There were so many fans packed into the stadium albeit most of them in red instead of yellow.

Yeah, so in the end, United struggled to a scrappy 3-2 win over Malaysia, but we were slightly disappointed by United’s display which was kinda understandable seeing as it was their first match in pre-season.

But the most important question of every United fan’s lips must be whether this Portuguese boy can replace his countryman who has fled to Real Madrid.

Yeah, soccer aside, I was given a birthday surprise by my friends after badminton on Tuesday.

The cake was awesome, my friends were awesome, and the workout was awesome as well.

It was really cool being surprised like that cause I usually get bad surprises and not pleasant ones, so yeah thanks guys =)

I went to KLCC on Thursday to be my cousin Hui Ghee and her best friend Puay Lin’s tour guide for the day. And OMFG, I shopped so much and bought so many things that the country’s economy is bound to be boosted by my shopping spree!

We spent the whole day at Pavilion and KLCC and met up with my relatives from Australia which was really cool.

Friday and Saturday were mostly the same thing, but when Hui Ghee’s brother Ghee Chuan arrived we went over to One Utama for more shopping. After One Utama, it was the main event, my Grandpa’s 92nd/93rd birthday depending on which calender you refer to at Summer Palace in Damansara Utama.

The food was nicely presented, but the helpings were on the little side, so I went home hungry despite having a fantastic time with my relatives.

But yeah, my cousins and I gave my Grandpa a great big surprise when all of us presented a short speech on our favourite moments with him. Touching really, especially when my sister Wei Li e-mailed her speech for us to read since she is all the way in Florida at the moment.

Oh, and we had to translate our speeches in Mandarin on the spot due to the fact that my Uncle Bobby’s business associates from China were there. And you know what? My Mandarin really absolutely undoubtedly sucks! Just ask my sister Yen Li whose English speech was totally butchered by my Mandarin translation.

Fun times though.

PS: What is up with movies these days using random indie songs? I just finished watching ‘I Love You, Man’ and it was decently funny, but I was more interested in the fact that the film had two of my favourite indie bands on it, Spoon and Vampire Weekend (which had two songs by the way). Zac Efron’s ‘17 Again’ also featured Spoon’s ‘The Underdog’, a masterful jangly pop anthem, which made an appearance in ‘I Love You, Man’ as well.

But seriously, movie producers should stop inserting random awesome indie songs into random not-so-awesome movies. ‘500 Days of Summer’ on the other hand, is a Sundance Festival film backed up by relevant and equally magical indie music which I hope will appear on Malaysian soil soon. The movie stars my favourite actress Zooey Deschanel while the soundtrack features her band She & Him as well as tracks from Feist and most notably 80’s super band The Smiths among others.

Cannot wait!

I’m gonna take a break from the Cameron posts to bring you news of my recent day-trip to Malacca on Wednesday.

Yeah, fresh from the road-trip to Cameron, I was ready for more fun on the road.

The first place we stopped at was Jonker Street for some Nyonya Asam Laksa goodness, and boy, we were not disappointed.

In short, the Nyonya Asam Laksa was to die for. It was not too spicy with a tinge of sweet and sour delight, a perfect start to an ultimately fruity food-y day!

After walking around Jonker and buying absolutely nothing, we ended up having some authentic Nyonya Cendul Melaka.

Personally, I don’t really like cendul; I seem to have something against food with coconut, but I gave this cendul a try nonetheless. In the six scoops I had before discarding the bowl to Zhen Long, I can say that this shop’s cendul tastes like caramel, something which I also do not take =p

We also took a walk down Sejarah textbook memory lane.

The Dutch houses, the A Famosa fort, as well as the rest of the Dutch and Portuguese heritage buildings were spell-binding, and it almost felt like we were back in Miss Chang’s classroom.

Next, we went shopping at the Pahlawan mall for a couple of hours. After that, we met up with one of Melvin and Zhen Long’s friends at the satay celup place.

It was my first time having satay celup though I am surprised this restaurant even calls it that since they don’t have any satay, they just have the celup.

As you can see, I was not thrilled with the satay selection.

Instead of the conventional chicken, beef or lamb satay, I had crabstick on a stick! But the crabstick on a stick turned out to be really really delicious and satisfying. Yum!

We then drove over to Taman Bunga Raya to locate Malacca’s best fried egg with oyster!

Yeah, we were a bit early as the uncle and auntie were just setting up, but after an excruciating half an hour, we got our famous fried egg with oyster.

Truth be told, while it was undeniably tasty, the dish pales in comparison to the one we had in Penang last year.

After that, we ended up in a back alley where Malacca’s alleged best seafood could be found.

The la la was awesome; it tasted fresh, and the chilly peanut sauce complemented it extremely well although the rest claimed that the la la was just normal.

The last stop of the day was to get putu piring which Huey May was craving about throughout the day.

Again, I took a bite, but seriously, coconut?

As we left the historical state of Malacca in our wake, we looked over the horizon with hope, disdain, dread, optimism and uncertainty with visions of our different campuses across three continents growing stronger as our holidays crept closer and closer to its end.

For the record, we took no short-cuts; hell, if what we took was not the long-cut, I don’t know what is.

On Wednesday morning, after barely 24 hours’ notice and barely any planning at all, six friends and I headed out onto the open road in an Innova to Cameron Highlands.

After what seemed like an eternity on the road, especially with the Mandarin music in the background, we reached Tanah Rata and immediately searched for a place to stay.

After some phone calls, Melvin managed to get us a bungalow for RM40 per night per person, and the awesome thing was that the top floor in which we were renting had seven beds in three separate rooms, just right for all of us guys and girls!

We headed over to T-Cafe for brunch on day two and day three. It came highly-recommended from some travel websites, so after the steamboat debacle (which will be revealed in a later post) from the night before, we were craving for some good food.

For day two, I ordered the Homemade Special beef lasagna, a strawberry fruity scone, and fresh apple juice.

Zhen Long ordered a cuppa hot chocolate, seen here with my absolutely refreshing apple juice.

The beef lasagna was simply delicious, though I was initially put off by the insane amount of shredded carrots in between the scrumptious cheese.

The shredded beef pieces were on the little side, but it was an interesting touch to add beef bacon in the midst of the cheese, beef pieces, and carrots. All in all, the ingredients complemented one another to produce a very healthy and tasty beef lasagna.

The strawberry fruity scone, which T-Cafe claims to be the only one in Cameron Highlands, was simplicity at its best. Little strawberries were baked into the scone and served along with cream; the result: a sweet delight.

Zhen Long subsequently ordered apple pie served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and boy, it was scrumptious beyond description.

I am glad we stopped by T-Cafe; the old-fashion restaurant’s walls cry out in unison to invite us to a place which looks so familiar, so homey, we instantly felt comfortable in a locale we had never set foot before.

There were antiques on the window-paint as well as old Archie comics on the shelf.

Oh, and read this framed work of comedic art! Priceless *wipe tear off eye*

But most importantly, everyone enjoyed the food to complement the gorgeously serene and tranquil atmosphere.

After that, we continued on at the honey farm and the cactus farm (which will be revealed in another later post) before heading over to the Big Red Strawberry farm.

We found the strawberry Popsicle which Huey May and I were craving for the whole trip. Gosh, strawberry heaven in an icy stick!

After that, we left for Strawberry Moments across the street.

Strawberry Moments, for all its promise and graphically-enticing website, was disappointing in every sense of the word. We came into the restaurant with high expectations following recommendations from the travel website, but the strawberry strudels which we ordered were scandalously sub-par.

The strawberries were not fresh while the pastry tasted stale; not good at all! In the end, the strudels were used more as props for cam-whoring than of eating =p

At least the fish and wedges were alright though.

Following the major disappointment of Strawberry Moments, we found solace in the bungalow with hot cup instant noodles and a round of Penang Monopoly.

More stories from the road to come, but there is a lesson learned amongst all these strawberries. Strawberries can be sweet, can be juicy, can be sour, and can be downright bitter at times, and you can never tell its content from its size or moniker. Life is like a strawberry; ride the wave of sweetness, enjoy the sugary temptations, forget the sour moments, and don’t flinch from the bitterness. Most importantly, don’t take too long to eat that strawberry for it may be soft and juice-less and squishy by then.

Watch this movie.

It is called the Teenage Textbook and is based on the novel of the same name as well as the novel’s sequel the Teenage Workbook. The two Adrian Tan-written novels (yes, by a Singaporean) from the late 80’s are two of my favourite and most-read books of all-time.

Gone are all the alien and unbelievably cliched Western high-school cultures from Sweet Valley High (which I read when I was much younger by the way); the Teenage Textbook and the Teenage Workbook are purely Singaporean-based scenarios about Singaporean teenagers and their misadventures in love and life.

I have been looking for the movie for years (since I was 13 when I first read the books incidentally), and I thank YouTube for the lovely movie although I prefer the book version better. I mean, one and a half hours of film to replace two full-fledged plots and story-lines was always going to be difficult, but it was a nice movie experience for a fanboy nonetheless.
